When we talk about food security, we are talking about more than just “ending hunger”. For our community, food security means that everyone, regardless of their income or background, has reliable access to enough affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food to lead a healthy life.
It is a foundation for everything else. It’s hard for a child to learn, an adult to work, or a senior to stay healthy if they don’t know where their next meal is coming from—or if that meal is consistently lacking in nutrition.
We are seeing an increase in demand for food relief in our region. Across the country we know that in regional areas supply also needs to be hyper-local … fuel prices make it even harder for people to travel long distances to access services.
The volunteers at The Linton Emergency Relief Pantry continue to do an amazing job for people and families in need. The crew who run the monthly Scarsdale lunch are also creating an incredible community gathering (with food relief available). I’ve put together a local food relief map (a work in progress) – a snapshot of places and times that food relief is available across the Woady Yaloak Region.
