On World Hunger Day (May 28), it seems it’s the right time to announce that last week, The Haddon CLC signed a Partnership Agreement with The Linton Emergency Relief Pantry.
The Linton Emergency Relief Pantry serves as a vital community resource for individuals and families facing financial hardship. Established in 2015 by Bennita Hough and Warren Bowen from a single cupboard and expanding to its current location in the former Linton Shire Hall.
“The Pantry” (as its locally known), provides access to essential food and personal hygiene items. Open from Thursday to Sunday, it offers a welcoming environment where residents can discreetly collect supplies, ensuring dignity and respect for all users. The pantry works with Foodbank Victoria, allowing it to offer a broader range of goods, such as fresh produce and frozen meals, to meet the diverse needs of the community.
Beyond addressing immediate food insecurity, the pantry fosters a sense of community and resilience. Initiatives like the food-swap program encourage residents to share homegrown produce, promoting sustainability and strengthening local connections. The pantry’s operations rely heavily on community donations, sponsorship and our incredible volunteers, highlighting a collective effort to combat food insecurity. As cost-of-living pressures increase, the pantry’s role becomes even more crucial, providing not just food, but also a symbol of solidarity and mutual aid within Linton and surrounding communities.
The Haddon CLC wants to be part of the solution to issues around Food Security in our region. In this partnership, The Haddon CLC will assist The Pantry financially, and also provide advice and support around governance, systems and processes.
