Tree grafting is a horticultural technique that involves joining a part of one plant, called the scion, onto the root system of another, called the rootstock, so that they grow as a single plant.
Tree grafting is an ancient practice, with evidence of its use dating back thousands of years. Early civilizations, including the Chinese, Greeks, and Romans, understood and utilised grafting techniques to improve fruit trees and other plants. The practice allowed for the propagation of desirable traits, the adaptation of plants to different climates, and the production of higher yields. Over centuries, the methods evolved, with various cultures contributing to the understanding and refinement of grafting, leading to the diverse techniques used in horticulture today.
Our experienced instructor from Sacred Threads Homestead will show you the equipment you need, and a proven process for grafting your own trees. This will be a great 2 hour workshop and at the end, you get to take home your own apple tree!
