So this might at first seem a little bit unimpressive – a photo of 4 zucchinis, 5 cucumbers, and a handful of asian greens – but what it represents means so much more to our community centre.
It is the very first harvest from our new garden.
The garden now has 12 great wicking beds, a brilliant custom built garden shed, and the start of a hedge to protect from the wind – all put in place during 2025.
We are about to be inundated with tomatoes, zucchinis and cucumbers – we have lots of herbs – pumpkins, onions and chillis on the way (and 3 beds that are just waiting to be planted out)
We want the garden to be a community asset that everyone can use and enjoy. We also want it to be part of the local food system.
But we are looking for help:
Could you come in for an hour a week to make sure everything is happy and healthy?
Could you do a weekly harvest and pick up to take items to the Linton Food Relief Pantry?
Could you do a monthly harvest and pick up to take items to Scarsdale for their monthly ‘Welcome Wednesday’ lunch?
Would you like to be part of the planning for the garden (we’ve got lots of ideas like getting the school involved, gardening related workshops, food sharing table for locals, seed banks, a pizza oven, more plants and pots to bring diversity, garden art, a local weather station, a better fence)?
